Editorial standards
Trust is part of luxury. These principles explain how The Carter Journal approaches hotel selections, research and future commercial partnerships.
What earns a place
We select hotels because they offer something genuinely worth considering: a distinctive setting, thoughtful design, a particular strength, an exceptional experience or a clear reason to choose them for a certain kind of stay. Familiarity alone is not enough.
How we research
Our guides draw on luxury-travel experience and information from official hotel sources. We look beyond the headline image to consider location, room categories, atmosphere, dining, facilities, service style and the practical details that can affect a booking.
Hotel facilities, restaurants, opening dates, programmes and policies can change. Important details are checked again for the traveller’s dates before any reservation is confirmed.
Editorial judgement
The Carter Journal is designed to help readers make a better-informed choice. Inclusion is not a guarantee that a hotel is right for every traveller, and numbered collections are editorial shortlists rather than universal rankings.
Rates and booking
Prices and availability change. A rate should be compared like for like, including the same hotel, room category, dates, board basis, taxes, cancellation terms and meaningful benefits. CARTER LUXURY can carry out that comparison personally, with no fee and no obligation to book.
Commercial transparency
Editorial recommendations and paid partnerships are not the same. If The Carter Journal later publishes sponsored, paid, hosted or gifted content, it will be labelled clearly so readers can understand the commercial relationship. Payment will not be presented as independent editorial selection.
Corrections and updates
We aim to keep guides accurate and useful. If material information changes or an error is identified, the article should be reviewed and corrected. Questions about an article can be sent to enquiries@carter-luxury.com.
